Garden In A City Open Garden Day Is Next Sunday!
Our one garden Open Garden Day will happen next Sunday, July 28th, from 2-5 pm (we’ve adjusted the time slightly). Friends, neighbors, and anyone interested in gardening is invited to stop by.
It’s always hard to pick the right day for this sort of thing, and you’re always fretting about which flowers are not blooming yet or have passed their peak. However, there should be plenty to look at: Cup Plant, different kinds of Joe Pye Weed, Agastache, lots of Daylilies, Heliopsis, Bee Balm, Wild Bergamot, and more. Plus there are many bird-friendly berrying shrubs for the birders.
We’ll have a handout on the plants in the garden with some related information.
It’s supposed to be a nice day – high of 75 and mostly sunny, so the gardening gods must approve.
If you have any questions, write to me at jasonbertkay@gmail.com
It will be a nice tour as your garden is always full and lush. I hope you get lots of folks visiting.
Hope so too. It’s a first time effort, so we’ll see.
Hmmmm…..If I can get a sitter I would so love to attend!!! This is absolutely fantastic!!! It would be such a great learning experience for me!!!
Feel free to bring the kids – unless they would be too much of a distraction for you. Not sure how far you are, if the car ride would be too much for them.
That is great! I hope it is a beautiful day for it & that you are able to relax enough to enjoy it!! It is so nice to get to share all of this hard work, yes?!?
Weather prediction right now is for good weather. Yes, I basically want people to come and tell me what an astounding garden I have.
I just had an open garden today and it was really fun to have everyone over. You’ll have a great time – just wish I could attend to ooh and ah!
I’ve already heard reports about how great your open garden day was.
Good luck with your day, hope it all works out well and is not too stressful.
I’m trying to be low key about it, with mixed success.
Have fun! Wish I were close enough to attend.
Same here!
If you weren’t across one very big pond Jason I’d definitely be there! Your garden looks fab 🙂
Thanks! One of these days you will have to visit the US and see Chicago.
Hi Jason, I’ve been to Chicago! A few years back though when blogging was a mere twinkle in my eye. I worked out there for over a week and LOVED it. I had a ‘moment’ when I stood on the wacker bridge (not quite sure how it’s spelt now?) and felt so in awe of the city. I stayed at Indigo on Dearborn (again,i could have spelt this wrong!!??) and the houses and gardens around there were beautiful. I was also amazed on the Saturday morning to find farmers market just down the block right there down town! Amazing! I was offered a job out there but couldn’t move permanently because Adam was doing a course though his hwork and the qualification meant a lot to him. Oh well, it was a great experience.
Have a great day!
Thank you, I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Hope it goes well and you enjoy yourselves!
Your garden looks lovely. If I lived in the area, I’d certainly want to stop, admire and chat. Have fun.
Wish I could get there but there’s no chance of that. The main thing is-have fun!
Hope the day dawns lovely to show all your hard work off handsomely! I think the best gardeners look beyond what is currently blooming to what was and what will be, and in your garden that is a lot!! It’s like a novel – you know what has already happened which informed the present, but you keep imagining the future! Have a good time and enjoy the limelight!!
That’s a good point, perhaps gardeners (including me) need to be more in the moment.
What a wonderful thing to do, I’d love to do that but never seem able to sort the gardens. Good luck with it, I’ll look forward to hearing how it went.xxxx
We’ll be there!
I would love to take a stroll around your garden — take pictures for those of us who can’t make it. I’m sure it will be a smashing success!
Thanks, we’ll let everyone know how it goes!
Jason, I hope this day will pass without problems and your garden will be popular. I wish you to win!
Hi Nadezda, thanks for your good wishes!
I would love to see your garden in person, but alas – you are too far away! Or more so – I am too far away… I will just have to enjoy the photos I imagine you will take and post for the benefit of us absentees. Have a great event – your garden looks fantastic! I attended Jane’s Open Garden yesterday, and it was absolutely lovely!
Thanks. This is one of the few downsides with an online community, people are so scattered. I would have liked to see Jane’s Open Garden.
I saw Scott with a camera – he will probably post photos soon, and they are always stellar. http://www.rhonestreetgardens.com/
What fun…enjoy! If I lived closer it would be on my calendar.
Thanks! Yes, this is one of the disadvantages of knowing people all over the map.
Have a great day and be sure to capture it in pictures for us. I will tell you right now that you have an astounding garden!
Thank you! Judy will probably take pictures but I’ll remind her.
I hope many will stop by to see your nice garden. Looking forward to hearing about it. Remember to take lots of pictures.
Well, I’m taking the attitude that whoever shows up is the right number.
I feel sure your visitors will enjoy your garden. Hope you have fun.
Thanks so much!
What an absolutely cool and generous thing to do! Thanks so much for inviting the birders to whom you were so gracious with your Varied Thrush, too. I am going to try very hard to not expend all my energy Sunday morning so I can stop by for a visit later.
Enjoy! Your garden is so beautiful and it’s so wonderful of you to share it with everyone!
As always, GREAT photos and a great yard!
Hope you have a great open garden! You are so kind to do that. I’d be a bundle of nerves and so much would need to be done for anyone to be able to visit my garden. I’ll be there in spirit!
I’m cultivating a blase attitude. I’m thinking I’ll take up smoking so I can look off into the distance while puffing away, a look of detachment on my face. May not come off that way, though, what with all the coughing.
How fun! Wish I could see it. Have a nice time 🙂
I hope to do just that!
How delightful! I wish I could make it to the open house–I’d love to see your garden. Good luck!
Good luck with your event. The garden looks terrific. The bee balm is certainly an eye catcher!
Here’s hoping that things still look as good at the Open House as they do in your pictures. 75 degrees in summer? Amazing.
I hope that you have a amazing day…what a wonderful idea. Now if only I was a little closer, I would be there camera in hand, wanting to meet you and your garden.
Jen
So excited for you…wish you were closer, I’d be there in a heartbeat!
Wow Jason, your garden looks amazing, I hope you have lots of visitors, I certainly wish I was one of them. Have an enjoyable day and hope the weather stays perfect for it.
Hope it goes well! If it had been two weeks earlier, I might have been able to come. Maybe next time. 🙂
Hi Jason, I’d LOVE to come, and when I can be beamed across like Scotty, you can be sure I’ll be there. The garden’s looking lovely, I’m sure it will be be much appreciated.
Hope to make it Sunday. Can’t wait to see your garden in person.
Look forward to meeting you!
Looks like it will be a beautiful way to spend a little time this summer! What a great idea too. Do you just do it on your own for one day every year or do some other gardens/neighbors participate?
Just doing it on my own. It’s a first time thing. There is a garden club that used to organize a garden tour that would come to my house but it didn’t happen this year so I’m doing this instead.
